Opening of the 30th season of classical music concerts at St.Botolph’s, Trunch!
Trio Incendio: Schubert, Shostakovich – Sat 21st Mar
The magnificent Trio Incendio (winners of numerous international competitions) opened the 2026 season of Trunch Concerts with an absolutely delightful programme: Schubert (Trio no. 2 D.929) and Shostakovich(Trio no. 2, Op.67).
The music of Schubert’s most famous trio no.2 has been used in many movies, its Andante became the main theme of the cult vampire film The Hunger (1983), starring David Bowie and Catherine Deneuve. Trio Incendio performed it superbly in Weimar at the Joseph Joachim Chamber Music Competition in 2022 and received the top prize!
The concert also featured Shostakovich‘s Piano Trio No2, which Stalin valued for its classical form and melodic brilliance. Shostakovich was awarded a State Stalin Prize for the trio. With unearthly fragments of a fugue in the first movement, the bitter irony of the scherzo in the second, the searching lament of the passacaglia in the third and climax in the final with the wild music of Jewish celebration, the trio well suit become Shostakovich’ most famous piece.
Trio Incendio has quickly established itself as one of the most distinctive young European ensembles, they are laureates of several international competitions like the Joseph Haydn Competition in Vienna, Gianni Bergamo Classic Music Award in Lugano, Coop Music Awards in Cremona, Concorso Musicale “Marcello Pontillo” in Firenze. They performed in some of the finest European venues like the Wigmore Hall in London, Philharmonie Berlin or Rudolfinum in Prague and have been invited to festivals like Ticino Musica, Davos Festival, Ohrid Summer Festival or the chamber music season of the Prague Spring Festival.
Concerts of Trio Incendio are appreciated for the beauty and warmth of the sound, passion and stylistic clarity.

Shostakovich‘s Piano Trio No 2 Op 67 was finished in the spring of 1944. Shostakovich was awarded a State Stalin Prize for the trio – Stalin valued it for its melodic brilliance and epic classical form.
